Faux fur-lined ushanka trapper hats for cold, windy days: ear flaps that wear up or down, adjustable chin straps, and on several styles a removable face mask with a breathing slit. Most have a windproof polyester shell; two have a leather-look outer with faux mink lining. Unisex, mostly one size fits most. $19.99–$41.99, free US shipping on every order.
Choosing a trapper hat
Fit. Most styles are one size, roughly 21–24.5 inches around the head, and the chin strap takes up the slack. The Victor comes in M/L and XL/XXL, and the leather-look shearling style in S–2X.
Mask or no mask. The Esty, Dab and Alex include a detachable mask that snaps on for full coverage and can be worn on its own. If you ski, snowboard or hunt, pick one of those. For commuting and dog walks, the simpler flap-only styles are lighter.
Care. Hand wash in cold water and line dry. The faux fur does not shed and recovers its loft after drying; brush it lightly with your fingers.
Frequently asked questions
Are these real fur?
No. The lining and flaps are faux fur (polyester). Two styles have a leather-look outer; the rest are polyester shells.
Will a trapper hat keep my ears warm in snow?
Yes, that is what the flaps are for: tie them down and the faux fur covers the ears and the back of the neck. Add the mask for face and chin.
Are they men's or women's hats?
Unisex. The same hat is worn by both; choose by color and whether you want the mask.
